August 2011 Club Newsletter

(This is a copy of the newsletter sent to all members in paper format.)

Welcome to the August 2011 BGCC Newsletter.

We’re halfway through the golfing season, but there’s plenty more golf ahead! Check our Web site (BGCountryClub.com) for all our event details. More is added every day. You can also sign up for the email version of this newsletter, if you haven’t already.

The Club also has a Facebook page. You can find it at Facebook.com/bgcountryclub. Events are posted, you can comment on the wall and also share stories, photos and more with your Facebook friends and friends of the Club.

Finally, congratulations to Dick Henrion for shooting a hole-in-one on July 21. He used his seven iron to bounce one into the cup on #11.

From the President, Gary Hartzler

Because of the U.S. Senior Open at Inverness the weekend of July 30-31, the Men’s Club Championship is being moved to coincide with the Women’s Club Championship. BOTH tournaments will take place over the weekend of August 6-7 with the same formats from previous years. Given the low turnout of these events in recent years, there should be plenty of tee times to go around.

Word from Stone Ridge has it that there have been some theft problems recently. Golfers have gone in for a snack or drink at the turn, leaving their clubs on the cart. On three occasions, the carts were missing on return. The carts were found in the parking lot with the clubs missing. It’s more difficult to do here, but it is a possibility, so please be aware of your belongings. The Club staff has been alerted and we will do our best, but in this world, anything is possible, so please be aware.

Finally, the Club is now an official lottery retailer. Keno will be running every day. You can also purchase MegaMillions, Powerball, Classic Lotto or any other, non-scratch-off ticket here. We are also able to cash modest winnings. Please remember: this is a country club, and as such the food and beverages will come first. Please be patient with servers who are often doing multiple things at once. They will help your lotto wants as they’re able. We will be receiving an automatic ticket selling machine at a future date (as of yet unknown). This should help streamline the process as well. Any questions about the lotto should be addressed to Bryan Stanbridge or a board member.

Social Committee, Betty Birr

Join us for the Hog Roast and Hawaiian Luau on Saturday, August 13. Mike Shuey will be roasting the hog. Full details are later in the newsletter.

Fairway Grill, Jeff Szabo

It’s hard to believe it’s bulletin time again. Seems like I just wrote July’s article. It’s amazing how fast the summer months fly by. Hope everyone is enjoying their time on the course and in the clubhouse.

While we are on the subject of enjoyment, you will want to mark your calendar for Saturday, August 13. We will be having the annual hog roast and golf scramble. This is one of the largest events of the year and is open to all members and guests. You do not have to golf to enjoy the buffet. Please make reservations in the lounge if you will be joining us for dinner but not golfing.

Business After Hours

Bowling Green Chamber of Commerce members will descend on the Club Wednesday, May 25 from 4:30 until 6 p.m. for a “Business After Hours” event. This event is held at different chamber members’ locations throughout the year. This is a great way to showcase the Club to prospective new members.

You don’t have to golf to enjoy the day. Food will be available as well. Open to anyone who would like to come. Sign-up in the pro shop.

Memorial Day Scramble

The annual Memorial Day Scramble will be held from 9 a.m. on Sunday, May 29. Sign-up by 6 p.m. on Friday, May 27. “A” players will draft teams beginning at 8 p.m. on Friday. This is a shotgun start and costs $25 to enter. Open to golfing members only. Sign-up in the pro shop.

Redesign

The Bowling Green Country Club Web site has been completely redesigned. Over the course of the last few weeks, I’ve been overhauling the Web site and transferring it to WordPress. It’s been a rough slog, but things are starting to take shape. I welcome any and all comments about the site, design or content. More to come in the future, including a private  members only area.
