(This is a copy of the newsletter sent to all members in paper format.)

Welcome to the August 2011 BGCC Newsletter.

We’re halfway through the golfing season, but there’s plenty more golf ahead! Check our Web site (BGCountryClub.com) for all our event details. More is added every day. You can also sign up for the email version of this newsletter, if you haven’t already.

The Club also has a Facebook page. You can find it at Facebook.com/bgcountryclub. Events are posted, you can comment on the wall and also share stories, photos and more with your Facebook friends and friends of the Club.

Finally, congratulations to Dick Henrion for shooting a hole-in-one on July 21. He used his seven iron to bounce one into the cup on #11.

From the President, Gary Hartzler

Because of the U.S. Senior Open at Inverness the weekend of July 30-31, the Men’s Club Championship is being moved to coincide with the Women’s Club Championship. BOTH tournaments will take place over the weekend of August 6-7 with the same formats from previous years. Given the low turnout of these events in recent years, there should be plenty of tee times to go around.

Word from Stone Ridge has it that there have been some theft problems recently. Golfers have gone in for a snack or drink at the turn, leaving their clubs on the cart. On three occasions, the carts were missing on return. The carts were found in the parking lot with the clubs missing. It’s more difficult to do here, but it is a possibility, so please be aware of your belongings. The Club staff has been alerted and we will do our best, but in this world, anything is possible, so please be aware.

Finally, the Club is now an official lottery retailer. Keno will be running every day. You can also purchase MegaMillions, Powerball, Classic Lotto or any other, non-scratch-off ticket here. We are also able to cash modest winnings. Please remember: this is a country club, and as such the food and beverages will come first. Please be patient with servers who are often doing multiple things at once. They will help your lotto wants as they’re able. We will be receiving an automatic ticket selling machine at a future date (as of yet unknown). This should help streamline the process as well. Any questions about the lotto should be addressed to Bryan Stanbridge or a board member.

Social Committee, Betty Birr

Join us for the Hog Roast and Hawaiian Luau on Saturday, August 13. Mike Shuey will be roasting the hog. Full details are later in the newsletter.

Fairway Grill, Jeff Szabo

It’s hard to believe it’s bulletin time again. Seems like I just wrote July’s article. It’s amazing how fast the summer months fly by. Hope everyone is enjoying their time on the course and in the clubhouse.

While we are on the subject of enjoyment, you will want to mark your calendar for Saturday, August 13. We will be having the annual hog roast and golf scramble. This is one of the largest events of the year and is open to all members and guests. You do not have to golf to enjoy the buffet. Please make reservations in the lounge if you will be joining us for dinner but not golfing.

June Friday Night Entrees

August 5: Trout, pork filets
August 12: Crab cakes, filet mignon
August 19: Red snapper, tournadoes of beef
August 26: BBQ shrimp, ribeye steak

Event Results

Worm Ball

The July 8 winners: First place were June and Dan Long; second were Janet and Jeff Elliott and third were Becky and Steve Dunn.

Winners, please retrieve your prize money and 1099 from the pro shop. Never played worm ball? Come out on Fridays around 4 p.m. and play a fun, mixed-couple event. Full details in the pro shop.

July 4 Scramble

Congratulations to all the participants of the July 4 Scramble. Turn-out was excellent for the event. We had enough participation for 10 teams of five. First place winners were John Archer, Dean Augenstein, John Frobose Jr, Pierson Halleck and Judy Reynolds (-11, scorecard playoff). Second place went to: Greg Brown, Joe Frizado, Tom Moore, Jackie Osborne and Joyce Stearns (-11, scorecard playoff). Third place winners were: Joe Cranny, Ron Gargasz, Lynn Helm, Pat Pope and Ron Scherer (-9, scorecard playoff).

Coming Events

Private Outing

On Saturday, August 6 from 3 p.m. there will be a private golf outing for Fire Lake Camp. If you plan to play in the Men’s Club championship, make sure to complete your round by 3 p.m.

Club Championships

The Men’s and Women’s Club championships will be held during the same weekend this year. Format will be similar to previous years with tee times on Sunday being adjusted to accommodate both groups. Full details can be found on our Web site under Events->Tournaments. The exact time of each event will be posted in the clubhouse and pro shop soon.

Doe Day

The course will be closed on Thursday, August 11 for the annual Doe Day event for our lady golfers. Full details may be found in the pro shop.

Hog Roast and Hawaiian Luau

On August 13, from 3:30 p.m., we will be hosting our annual hog roast and Hawaiian luau. This event is open to all members and their guests. Cost to golf is $5 entry fee, plus $5 cart rental and $5 greens fees. Register in the pro shop with your team of four to six players, or sign-up individually and you’ll be placed on a team. Mike Shuey will be cooking the hog and you need not golf to enjoy the food. Register for golf in the pro shop, dinner only in the lounge.

Worm Ball Scramble

Join us for another worm ball scramble on Sunday, August 28 from 3:30 p.m. Cost to enter is only $2 per player plus cart rentals and greens fees. Register as a mixed couple or single and we’ll pair you as able with a partner. This is a fun and relaxed way to enjoy the course.
